Shark
Teeth: Shark teeth are very common fossils. This is because
shark teeth drop out whenever they are worn or broken and new
teeth replace these almost immediately. Sharks fist appeared
during the Devonian Period about 375 million years ago.
Paleontologists must piece together shark’s history from only its
teeth because its skeleton is made of cartilage, which is seldom
fossilized. The largest ancient shark tooth ever known is from a
shark called the Carcharodon. Some of these teeth are as
long as 8 inches that would make the shark 45 feet long or about
twice the size of the modern Great White Shark.
