Miner Jack Says:

"Orthoceras: Orthoceras were marine creatures first appearing 505 million years ago. They are similar to the present day squid. These sea animals could move by squirting water out of their body cavity. They swam in warm shallow seas eating small animals. Some orthoceras grew to be about 6 feet long. In the fossil, you may notice chambers where the animal lived."

"Geode Halves: “Oco’s”, the word used in Brazil where they are found, are tiny agate nodules with a geode center. Agate is named after a river in Sicily called Achates, where it was found in the Fourth Century, B.C. In the center of the rock, where there is a cavity, crystals often form, thus the name geode. The formation in which the geodes are found is 50 million years old and located in the country of Brazil. Farmers have gathered the oco’s for many years. After the crops have been harvested and the farmers are unable to work, the fields are tilled under allowing the oco’s to appear. They are then gathered and sold for cutting into the geode half."

"Arrowheads: Arrowheads are crafted from the same materials (jasper, agate, obsidian and flint) used by Native Americans for centuries. One of the most important and respected members of his tribe was generally the arrowhead maker. Ancient peoples used arrowheads on the ends of spears and arrows as a means of weaponry in hunting animals and as protection against their enemies. Origin: Mexico."

"Shark Teeth: Shark teeth are very common fossils. This is because shark teeth drop out whenever they are worn or broken and new teeth replace these almost immediately. Sharks first appeared during the Devonian Period about 375 million years ago. Paleontologists must piece together shark’s history from only its teeth because its skeleton is made of cartilage, which is seldom fossilized. The largest ancient shark tooth ever known is from a shark called the Carcharodon. Some of these teeth are as long as 8 inches so that would make the shark 45 feet long or about twice the size of the modern Great White Shark."
